Gloucester
The city of Gloucester can be found close to the Welsh border in the county of Gloucestershire in the southwest of England. The city sits on the banks of the River Severn which famously flooded in the 2007 floods that devastated parts of low land flood plains in the UK due to heavier than expected rain fall which resulted in a number of river to burst their banks, the Severn being one of them. Thankfully the residents of Gloucester are a resilient bunch and most of the city was restored to its former glory.
King Henry II granted Gloucester a royal charter in 1155 but the cities history goes back further than that to around AD 97 where it was founded by the Romans. Gloucester Cathedral originated as far back as 678, although it has been rebuilt since it is still a great place to visit for anyone who likes to take in a bit of history.
