Glasgow

The largest city in Scotland is Glasgow and can be found sitting on the banks of the River Clyde.  This small river side settlement has grown in leaps and bounds to become a major port big city, with trade coming up the River Clyde from all over the world, this growth was helped by the industrial revolution which pushed Glasgow to the forefront of textiles and engineering which include quite notably shipbuilding as well as marine engineering.

With good fishing in the area surrounding Glasgow, communities have lived close to the River Clyde for millennia.  The Romans were no strangers to the place as they built a selection of outposts in the surrounding area in an attempt to keep Roman Britannia separated from the Celtic and Pictish Caledonia.  The Romans are famous for building walls, Antoninie Wall was constructed north of the city and was constructed from stone foundations and turf, not much of it is left nowadays due to the materials used just falling back to their natural state.

Glasgow is a multicultural city that has many different peoples from many different walks of life living and working there.  With several universities found in Glasgow one of which dates back to 1451, there a a strong youth movement which brings new thinking and fresh ideas to the city.
