5 Delightful Vodka CocktailsI have heard it said that vodka is a tasteless drink and that it is not a great drink to have in your cupboard – rubbish and so this is why we thought that we would introduce you to 5 Delightful Vodka Cocktails which you may or may not have tried before. Even if you have had these lovelies before, they are sooo good that you will want them again and again and again! Here at The Pocket Hip Flask Co HQ, we do love a nice cocktail every now and again!

Bloody Mary

An iconic cocktail that is probably my most absolute favourite vodka drink. Perfect in all weather and can be made a spicy as you like to suit personal tastes. A beautifully simple cocktail that is so easy to make. A joy to drink is this elegant delight that sure can pack a punch. Also a great hangover cure.

Ingredients:Delightful Vodka Cocktails - Bloody Mary

1.5 oz or 42 call it 43 ml of Vodka
3 oz or 85 ml of tomato juice – I find unsweetened the best
1/2 oz or 14 ml of Lemon Juice
Dash of Worcestershire Sauce
Hot Sauce to Taste – Tabasco Habanero works great
Pinch of Celery Salt
Celery Stalk to Garnish and stir

How to Make:
Pop some ice cubes into a chilled high ball glass and then pour in the liquid ingredients.
Next, give it a good ole stir and then taste. Check and see if you have the seasoning right and then adjust to how you like it.
Throw in the celery stick, give it a quick stir, sit back and enjoy. See, told you it was simple!

Black Russian

Delightful Vodka Cocktails - Black Russian CocktailsIf you like vodka and you like coffee well then you are in for a treat. These babies taste amazing and make for a rather refreshing cocktail. Yum! As these drinks only contain alcohol and there is no mixer, I would always treat them as a drink to be sipped and enjoyed slowly. Easier said than done with these though as they are do damn tasty.

1.5 oz or 42 call it 43 ml of Vodka
3/4 oz or 21 ml of your favourite coffee liqueur

How to Make:
Using a glass of your choice, pour in the ingredients over ice. Done! Now you can enjoy.
The ratio of this drink does not have to be exact- experiment and adjust to your taste. You can also mix it up a little by using flavoured vodkas such as chocolate or even coffee.

Cosmopolitan aka ‘Cosmo’

One of the more popular vodka cocktails that I hear ordered when out and about. Very popular when we visited a cocktail bar in New York thanks to Sex and the City. A typical girly drink I think they call it. Who cares it is fruity and delicious. There are many variations to this drink to make it as dry or as sweet as you like. Experiment with the quantities and see how you get on.

1.5 oz or 42 call it 43 ml of Vodka
1 oz or 28 ml of Cointreau (orange liqueur)
1/2 oz or 14 ml of Lime Juice
1/2 oz or 14 ml of Cranberry Juice
Twist of Orange Peel to garnish

How to Make:
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and then add all of the ingredients var the garnish.  Give it a very good shake until the outside of the shaker becomes too cold to hold.
Once thoroughly shaken, train into a chilled cocktail glass. Pop the orange twist onto the rim of the glass and there you have our cosmo.
This recipe makes or a rather sweet cocktail however if you want it a little drier then feel free to omit some of the cranberry juice.

Moscow Mule

Delightful Vodka Cocktails - Moscow Mule Cocktail

Mmmmmm – the vodka version on my favourite run cocktail the dark and stormy.  Another simple yet punchy vodka drink with only a few ingredients. The Moscow Mule gives you a little wake up and is a snappy , unique and incredibly refreshing experience.
Traditionally the Moscow Mule was served in a copper mug however, as most of us don’t own one of these, I would go for a classic highball glass instead.

2 oz or 56 ml of Vodka
1 oz or 28 ml of Lime Juice
8 oz or 227 ml of ginger beer, of enough to top off your glass (make it as spicy as you like) Fever tree ginger beer is lovely
Lime Wedge for Garnish

How to Make:
Pour the vodka and lime juice into a highball glass with as much ice in as you like. Top it off with the ginger beer and pop the lime wedge on the rim of the highball glass. Simple yet stunningly good!

The Salty Dog

This recipe is a twist on the popular Greyhound cocktail. There is only one extra element to this drink however it makes all the difference. Light and refreshing and a little tart. Perfect for those warm summer days spent outside.

1 oz or 28 ml of Vodka
Grapefruit Juice
Wedge of Lime
Sea Salt

How to Make:
Rub the rim of a cocktail glass with the lime wedge and the dip it into a small plate of sea salt (or pink rock salt). Fill a cocktail shaker with ice, and pour in the vodka and give it a good old shake to chill the vodka.  Pop some crushed ice into the glass and then pour in the shaken vodka. Top up with the grapefruit juice and drink. Delicious! Argh, salty sea dog!

If you are taking your alcohol to a party but do not want to take a whole bottle or are looking to take several types then why not just take smaller amounts in your hip flasks. Great for controlling the amount that you drink.
