Some of you may be surprised but there are so many different ways in which you can drink bourbon… yes, there really is not just over ice or with coke but lots of really yummy ways. Keep reading and I will tell you some of them. Only some mind or we will be here all day……
Over Ice – the simplest and to be honest one of the most popular methods of drinking bourbon. Drop a few ice cubes, or whisky stones into your favourite glass, pour on your preferred bourbon and sip away. Mmmmm!
Some great bourbons that we enjoy are JD, Jim Beam & Knob Creek – just to name a few.
Mint Julep – another simple cocktail yet a refreshing classic. Made with around 4 ingredients it will take you no time at all to make and even less time to drink;
Ingredients:
2oz Bourbon
2tsp Water
1tsp Icing Sugar
4 Mint Leaves – can be adjusted according to taste
How to make:
Muddle the mint, sugar and water – gently so that you do not bruise the mint too much. Put the muddled mint mix into a highball glass and then fill the glass with crushed ice. Pour over the bourbon and then stir well then enjoy!
Pecan Punch – dessert or cocktail? You decide! Not actually one that I have tried as yet but 100% on the list. Sounds soooo good that perhaps I should have it as a cocktail and as dessert…
Ingredients:
1/4 cup bourbon
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup water
1/2 cup sugar syrup
1 tbsp cream of coconut
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp pink salt
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
How to make:
In a pre-heated oven, bake the pecans at 180 or gas mark 4 for 10 minutes. take out and leave to cool.
In a food processor pop in everything except the water and the bourbon. Blend until smooth. Once the mix is smooth, keep the blender running and our in the water. Once combine pour the mix through a fine sieve and strain into a jug then chill for at least 3 hours, max 24. Once suitably chilled stir in the bourbon and serve in cocktail glasses. Delicious!
Shoo Punch – very similar to a rum dark and storm with just a few more ingredients and of course minus the rum. Refreshing and perfect for hot sunny days.
Ingredients:
5 tbsp bourbon
2 tbsp ginger liquor
1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
1/4 tsp bitters
Ginger Beer to taste
Crushed Ice
How to make:
Stir together all ingredients bar the ginger beer and the crushed ice. Add the crushed ice to a glass, we find that a mason jar works quite nicely with this drink. Add the bourbon mix to the glass or jar and then add the ginger beer to taste.. Mmmm mmmmm – tasty!
Bourbon Bloody Mary – I just love standard bloody Mary’s and thought that they could not be improved but I was wrong. You must try this bourbon version.
Ingredients:
1 1/2 oz bourbon
2 dashes of celery salt
1 lime wedge
2 dashes Habanero hot sauce
2 dashes of Worcestershire
Tomato Juice to taste
1 stick celery to garnish
How to make:
Firstly you will want to start off by rubbing the rim of your chosen glass with the lime wedge and then coating with the celery salt.
Next, fill the glass with ice, any is fine and then add all of the ingredients to the glass except for the juice and the celery stick. Lastly you will want to fill the glass with the tomato juice and stir well. Pop in the celery and sit back to enjoy! Is a little punchy but oh so good.
